One of the great penalties those of us who live our lives in full view of the public must pay is the loss of that most cherished birthright of man’s, privacy.

Born Gladys Louise Smith in 1892 at Toronto, Canada she was the most popular actress of the 1910s and 1920s earning herself the nickname of “Queen of the Movies” she married three times her second husband being Douglas Fairbanks Sr she was wife number two of three for him also they divorced in 1936 after marrying in 1920,  she had two adopted children and died of a cerebral haemorrhage on May 29th 1979 aged eighty seven when the age of the silent screen sirens had long since become extinct.
